About Chris Tribe Furniture
My career in furniture making started in 1990, with the intention of producing Shaker furniture to the same exacting standards of the originals. However lack of demand lead me into other avenues, a fortuitous development really as I now enjoy a greater freedom of expression in my work.
My furniture has developed from the minimalist forms of the shakers to incorporate varied surface decoration and curved forms. However I believe I still strive for the same high standards in making.
Most of my work is to commission,however every year I like to make a number of speculative pieces! Speculative work allows the development of new design ideas and experimentation with new techniques.
I earn my bread and butter through commissioned work, the challenge here is to marry my design vocabulary with the clients requirements, a satisfying process for me and, I hope, the client.
I hope this site communicates the enjoyment I get from my work and that you, in turn, enjoy seeing the products of my labours.
