Free Marquetry courses

During May and June we are participating in two events designed to bring the arts and crafts into the public eye. In May Craft and Design Month, run by Craft and Design magazine, is intended to highlight the wide spectrum of skilled crafts practice taking place throughout the country. Designer Makers Gallery is participating in this event. As part of our involvement I am offering two three hour marqetry taster workshops. During these free workshops participants will learn basic marquetry techniques in a relaxed atmosphere. We will be making an inlayed parterae, a familiar classical motif. Participants will create the fluted effect by dipping the maple veneer in hot sand, cut and fit the pieces and lay the motif into the background. The motif will be layed onto a solid substrate to make a great coaster or plaque
During June crafts people and artists throughout North Yorkshire will be opening their workshops and studios to the public as part of North Yorkshire Open Studios. We are part of NYOS and look forward to the public coming to see the equipment we use in our work, see work in progress and discuss our methods with the makers. A fantastic opportunity to understand the process of fine furniture design and making. As part of this event I am again offering the marquetry taster workshops.
Full details of dates and times of these events are shown below. To book a place on the marquetry workshops please email me at chris@christribe.co.uk or phone 01943 880417.
I look forward to working with you.
