I started this blog in October 2009 when I moved workshops from Denby Dale, near Huddersfield, up to Blubberhouses, north of Leeds. The intention is to tell the story of how the workshop and attached Gallery (http://www.designermakers.co.uk/) develops. Of course I'll also include comment on furniture making in general and other incidents of interest.
However I realise that the blogoshpere can be a bit turgid in places so I hope that my postings will be relatively pithy and readable.

John Makepiece exhibition

If you ask a member of the public to name a furniture maker they would probably come up with Thomas Chippendale and, if you were in Yorkshire, the Mouseman (Robert Thompson) perhaps, if they were a bit more cosmopolitan they might mention John Makepiece. Makepiece is probably the only contemporary designer maker that has made any impact on the public consciousness, except perhaps Lindley, but being royalty, he's a special case! read more
