Furniture Making Courses

Chris Tribe has taught furniture making courses for about twenty years and gained a PGCE in adult education in 2005. He now offers woodwork courses from his fully equipped workshop in North Yorkshire

Teaching is in small groups of no more than four and essentially student centred. Most of the courses are two day weekend events with occasional five day courses. On the weekend courses the emphasis is on skills acquisition rather than completing a particular project, you may not leave the course with a piece of furniture but you will definitely leave with some of the necessary skills to make one. On the five day courses teaching is based around a particular project. On all the courses you will learn the importance of accuracy and method, you will also find the tuition is quite intense!

Browse through the course menu to find the furniture making course that suites you then check the course program to see when the course is running. To find out more or to book a course either phone Chris on 01943 880111 or go to Contact.

If you have a specific technique which you would like help with, it is possible to tailor a course to your needs. Please contact Chris Tribe Furniture to discuss requirements and costs.

The workshop is based in the beautiful Washburn valley, to find out about local accomodation click here

Student Comments:

"Thanks for the course, it was an excellent culmination to the series. I found it both informative and interesting start to finish. The skill of bending and veneering is one I hope to use more often to lift my work above the norm. Once again you managed to correctly balance the hand skills with machine work to show the benefits of one against the other and that in circumstances like this they can actually complement each other, and not oppose, and that attention to detail remains a priority with both. Overall, you managed to keep the course interesting and filled with all those little bits of experience that will assist me in the future. Thoroughly enjoyable."

Simon Hodson - Mansfield Woodhouse

"A quick note to say how much I both enjoyed, and learned from, the series of weekend courses you ran recently. The sharpening and fettling course was a real eye-opener in terms of what can be achieved with quite modest tools and a little application. And the jointing weekends have given me a passion for hand skills which I would never have imagined possible!

Thank you for organising such useful sessions".

Bob Bryant - Skipton

"Thoroughly enjoyed my taster weekend. I have come away with an enthusiasm and appreciation of fine furniture and tools imbued by your own. Your showroom is a jaw dropping testament to your technical skills and this was carried through to your teaching which was crystal clear at all times. Demonstrations accompanied by simplified explanations made the process achievable (even by me!) as well as readily memorable.

An added bonus was having the 2 best nights sleep I’ve had in years!"

Howard Orridge - Doncaster
