Furniture Making Courses

Since setting up as a furniture maker in 1990, I have always enjoyed passing on my skills. This was mainly in adult education classes in South and West Yorkshire. In 2005 I gained a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (Post 16yrs). For the last two years I have offered courses in furniture making from my own workshop.
I am now offering courses from my new workshop in Blubberhouses, North Yorkshire. Located just north of Otley (the birthplace of Thomas Chippendale) and mid way between Harrogate and Skipton it is ideally situated for those seeking woodwork tuition in the north.
Teaching is in small groups of no more than four (except for the design seminar) and essentially student centred, ie teaching is based around the needs of the student. Most of the courses are two day weekend events with a longer five day course in the summer and occasional one day seminars. On the weekend courses the emphasis is on skills aquisition rather than completing a particular project, you may not leave the course with a piece of furniture but you will definately leave with the necessary skills to do so. On the five day courses teaching is based around a particular project. Full details can be found in the specific course descriptions.
If you have a specific technique which you would like help with it is possible to tailor a course to your needs. This would probably be one to one tuition so the course duration may be shorter, a half or full day. Please contact Chris Tribe Furniture to discuss requirements and costs.
The workshop is situated in beautiful countryside about five miles from the Yorkshire Dales National Park. We have an arrangement with Scaife Hall Farm which offers bed and breakfast about half a mile down the road. There is also an excellent restaurant on site with whom we have arranged special rates for course members. So a course at Chris Tribe Furniture could be the basis for a wider holiday.
