Opposites: Circles and Stripes Sideboard

I was very pleased to have the opportunity to work on this project with the contemporary marquetarian Christine Meyer-Eaglestone. Christine originally trained in fine art and sculpture only later discovering marquetry. All her work is hand cut, allowing her to develop a design organically using a vast selection of veneers as her palette. Christine prides herself on the precision of her work and the fact that every piece she makes is unique.

On this piece Christine created the marquetry panels and laid them onto boards, I then cut and mitred the panels to create the two inverted "L" shapes. All the outer corners of the "L's" are inlaid with 3.4mm ebony stringing to protect the delicate edges. The "L's" are attached to an oak veneered carcase that holds six push to open drawers. The drawers have oak linings with hand cut dovetails and cedar of Lebanon bottoms, a beautiful aroma of cedar wafts out when the drawers are opened. The finish is a satin lacquer.

A truly unique and striking piece. We are planning further pieces in the "Opposites" series so watch this space!
