Wave Kitchen
This kitchen was a true collaboration, the design was a cooperation between myself, David Wilson of Designer Makers Ltd and the customer. I have long had an idea to do an interior with this wave motif and suggested it when we were discussing the design. The intention being that the wave reflects the Yorkshire hills in which the kitchen is set.The customer was immediately intrigued by the idea of the wave and herself suggested the art deco style rounded corners. The maple, oak, walnut combination makes this a truly unique piece.
David and I worked on the making together, the doors and drawer fronts are in lightly rippled maple with a raised oak wave pattern applied. The worktops are maple and walnut with walnut plinth and dividers. Most of the base units house deep drawers, saving having to get on hands and knees to get pots from the back of cupboards! Of course the drawers feature our standard hand cut dovetails
A seperate unit houses various cooking appliances on the left hand side and hifi equipment on the right, the cook is a keen musician.
The previous kitchen had a solid maple floor and a large peninsular unit. Removing the peninsular unit would leave a patch in the floor. The customer was reluctant to scrap the floor, so we are fitting a patterned inlay in oak, maple and walnut.
The customer was very pleased with the whole project:
" The pleasure I have got from this re-formed space is immense! The beauty of the wood. The skill of the craftsmen who translated our vision into a stunning kitchen. The attention to detail. The inside out perfection. The after care: all these have really made an impression on me. The kitchen is a delight and a master piece. Thank you. " Mrs M., Otley.
