Dining Suite with bench

The brief for this suite was for a large, chunky table with a two metre by one metre top at least 50 mm thick. Seating arrangements would be five chairs, three down one side with one at each end and a bench on the other side. The chairs should have solid seats. The design should be in keeping with an existing oak kitchen.

The simple table has 120mm square legs with a bead to the bottom of the apron, this matches with the bead on the kitchen.

The high curved chair backs give them a certain elegance while the 50mm thick legs keep them in proportion with the table. A bead appears again on the rails of the chairs, which also feature through wedged mortice and tenons to the back rails. The wedge tenon motif also occurs in the the bench top.

The finish is a resiliant rag applied satin polyurethane varnish.
