Split Hall Table with Mirror
A hall table and mirror in ripple sycamore with rosewood details. The top and legs are in two parts, rosewood dowels connect the two halves of the top. The tenons at the top of the legs pierce the table top and feature contrasting wedges. The arched rail gives a tension to the piece while providing a bridge like effect.
The mirror continues the split motif of the table, being in two parts with rosewood connecting dowels. A rosewood bead frames the mirror.
This table and mirror is the latest development of this design, Chris has made versions in oak and wenge and ripple sycamore and walnut, featuring a solid contrasting band down the centre of the table rather than connecting dowels. The original intention of the piece was an experiment in arts and crafts design. The arts and crafts believed that construction should be evident on this piece the jointing is clear and decorative. So it is intended as a modern take on the arts and crafts idea.
