Nested Tables

Jan 27, 2014 in Recent Work | No Comments

In recent weeks I have completed two very different nests of tables.  One was to meet the particular requirements of a customer, who wanted four identical small tables to fit under a matching coffee table.  The other was a more traditional set of three, which are currently on show (and for sale) at the Manchester Art Gallery shop.

The impact of the ‘group of fivenest of 5 tables white background copy’ derives mainly from the contrast in the woods used  – maple for the table tops and walnut for the legs.  The ‘group of three’ are more restrained in their effect, but the burr walnut table tops are beautiful.  Making these pieces has reminded me how much I appreciate the material that I work with, and how a design with minimal ‘fussiness’ allows the wood to speak for itself.
