New desk and chair to be unveiled at MAKERS exhibition in Manchester

In the design for the Cube desk and chair the accent is on simplicity combined with careful use of beautiful materials. The walnut is from a tree that came down in Wetherby about ten years ago. The highly figured oak burr is carefully quartered so the pattern folds round the edges of the desk giving a special unity to the piece.

The chair combines traditional and modern making techniques. The curved arms are formed using carefully cut and dowelled lap joints while the seat rails and arms are jointed to the curved burr oak back using steel dowels and a modern epoxy adhesive to give extraordinarily strong joints. On the desk, the drawer bottoms are lined in a beautiful soft leather, lamb nappa, while the chair seat is upholstered in rich burgundy lamb nappa.

The MAKERS exhibition at the Cube Gallery in Manchester is an event that brings together some of the best designers and makers of interior crafts in the North. Eighteen members of the Northern Contemporary Furniture Makers will be exhibiting, making this the largest exhibition of it’s kind in the north for some years. Many makers will, like us, be showcasing new pieces made specially for the exhibition.

To see the new desk and chair get along to the Cube gallery between 15th-25th May. Or if you would like to come to the preview on the 14th 5.30 – 8.00 contact Chris and he’ll add you to the guest list.
